WebCatalog is a directory of web-based applications. We help people discover and use apps that run directly in a web browser.
We only accept web-based applications. To keep our catalog useful, accurate, and safe, all app submissions must meet the following guidelines.
Eligibility requirements
To qualify for listing on WebCatalog, an app must:
- Be web-based: The app must provide its core functionality directly through a web browser, without requiring users to install desktop or mobile software.
- Provide useful functionality: The app must offer an interactive service, tool, or experience that serves a clear purpose.
- Be accessible: The app must have a working, publicly accessible URL. Apps that require registration, sign-in, or a paid subscription are welcome.
- Be functional: The app must work as intended and be reasonably reliable.
- Have accurate information: The app's name, description, icon, and website URL must accurately represent the service.
We welcome web apps across a wide range of categories, including productivity, communication, entertainment, education, shopping, and business.
Apps that offer both web and native versions are eligible, provided their web version offers meaningful functionality independently.
What apps aren't eligible?
We generally don't accept:
- Traditional websites: Personal blogs, company homepages, informational websites, and other sites that don't provide meaningful application functionality.
- Native-only applications: Desktop or mobile apps that cannot be used directly through a web browser.
- Browser extensions: Extensions that don't offer a standalone web application.
- Download-only websites: Websites whose primary purpose is to distribute downloadable software rather than provide a usable web application.
- Inactive or broken apps: Services that are permanently unavailable, non-functional, or no longer maintained.
- Duplicate listings: Apps that are already listed on WebCatalog under the same service.
A website doesn't need to resemble traditional software to qualify. Interactive services such as streaming platforms, online stores, and social networks can also be considered web apps.
Content and safety requirements
We don't accept apps that:
- Distribute malware, spyware, or other harmful software.
- Engage in phishing, scams, fraud, or deceptive practices.
- Primarily facilitate illegal activities or transactions.
- Primarily provide pornographic or sexually explicit content.
- Promote violent extremism, exploitation, or other seriously harmful activities.
- Primarily facilitate copyright infringement or violate intellectual property rights.
- Impersonate other services or mislead users about their identity. This includes using another company's product or model name as the app's own name or domain, such as an unofficial site named after an AI model it offers. Offering third-party models under your own brand is fine.
- Download, save, or convert media from third-party platforms, such as YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, or Spotify, without those platforms' permission.
- Collect or reveal other people's profiles, stories, or activity on third-party platforms without their consent, such as anonymous story viewers.
- Generate fake documents, such as receipts, bank statements, or IDs, or help users get around identity or phone verification.
- Exist primarily to help students cheat on coursework or exams, or to disguise AI-generated work as their own.
- Exist primarily for spam, misleading redirects, or search engine manipulation.
We may also reject apps that pose security or privacy risks or contain misleading information.
Crowded categories
Some kinds of apps, such as background removers, AI image and video generators, and unit converters, are already widely available on WebCatalog. In these categories, we accept new apps that offer a meaningfully different or improved experience, not near-identical copies of apps already listed.
Who can submit an app?
Anyone can submit an app to WebCatalog. You don't need to be the developer or owner of the app.
Developers and authorized representatives can also verify ownership of their apps to manage their listings and keep their information up to date.
Being listed on WebCatalog doesn't imply a partnership, endorsement, or affiliation between WebCatalog and the app's developer.
How are apps reviewed?
Our team reviews submissions to determine whether they meet these guidelines.
During the review, we may check the app's website, functionality, and listing information. We may approve the submission, request additional information, or reject it.
We review the app itself. You don't need to be a registered company, use a business email address, or provide company details to have your app listed.
If we reject a submission, we tell you which guideline it doesn't meet. You're welcome to resubmit your app after addressing it.
Submitting an app doesn't guarantee approval. Review times may vary depending on the submission.
We may also update or remove existing listings if an app becomes unavailable, violates our guidelines, or no longer meets our eligibility requirements.
What if my app was rejected or removed?
If you believe your app was incorrectly rejected or removed, please contact our support team with the app's URL and relevant details.
You can also contact us to report an app that violates these guidelines or request corrections to an existing listing.
WebCatalog reviews these requests individually and reserves the right to make final decisions about which apps appear in our catalog.
