Setting inheritance and overrides in the WebCatalog desktop app

The WebCatalog desktop app lets you configure settings at three levels:

  • Global settings apply to all installed apps and spaces.
  • App-specific settings apply only to a specific app or space.
  • Profile-specific settings apply only to a specific profile.

Not every setting is available at every level. When a setting is available at a more specific level, it can override the setting from the level above.

How inheritance works

In general, settings follow this hierarchy:

Global settings → App-specific settings → Profile-specific settings

App-specific settings inherit from global settings.

Profile-specific settings inherit from app-specific settings when that setting is available at the profile level.

How overrides work

You can change a setting for a specific app, space, or profile without affecting others.

For example, if Block ads & trackers is enabled globally, all installed apps and spaces use that setting by default.

You can disable it for one app or space, and that app or space will use its own setting instead, while other apps and spaces continue using the global setting.

What does “Default” mean?

When a setting is set to Default, it inherits its value from the level above.

  • In app-specific settings, Default uses the global setting.
  • In profile-specific settings, Default uses the app-specific setting.

Using Default makes it easy to keep settings consistent while only customizing the apps, spaces, or profiles that need different behavior.
