Covering an area of ​​4,234 sq km, the Ambrosian Archdiocese (so called from the name of its patron Saint Ambrose) includes the metropolitan city of Milan, the province of Monza and Brianza, most of the provinces of Varese and Lecco, and some municipalities in the provinces of Como, Pavia and Bergamo. In 2019 it had 5,078,297 baptized out of 5,558,412 inhabitants, the fifth diocese in the world by number of faithful.
